The Peacemaker
“…My peace I give unto you…Let not your heart be troubled.” John 14:27 (KJV)
Samuel Colt was an American inventor who was born in Hartford, Connecticut on July 19, 1814. Young Samuel had always tinkered with things while working in his father’s mill. As he grew older, he began saving his money and began building guns. He had toyed with the idea of multiple barrels on his guns then decided on a single barrel design. After obtaining a $300 loan from one of his father’s friends, Samuel began to refine his prototype revolver. Captain Samuel Walker of the Texas Rangers first used some of Colt’s revolvers and was thoroughly impressed with their effectiveness as his 15-man unit defeated a band of 70 Comanche Warriors. Captain Walker was so impressed; he ordered thousands of Colts revolutionary guns. The 1873 model Colt became known as the Peacemaker and the U.S. Army adopted this revolver to issue to the troops. Jesus is the original Peacemaker. The first words He spoke to His disciples after the resurrection was “Peace be unto you.” (Jn. 20: 21). Later when He saw “Doubting Thomas” He said the same thing (Jn. 20: 26). Those words of Jesus were offered then, as well as now to bring a peace that the Apostle Paul describes as being “beyond understanding.” (Philippians 4:7). This peace is available to you now, all you need to do is ask for it, and He will give it.
